FAQ

What is Health Coaching?

Health coaching is a growing field, and it’s quickly increasing in popularity. With millions of people suffering from largely preventable lifestyle-related chronic diseases, (Integrative) Nutrition Health Coaches are well-placed to bring about lasting change in the lives of individuals worldwide and help spread the “ripple effect” of empowered health and wellness.Health Coaches are mentors, advocates and trainers who use a progressive judgment-free approach to help their clients. The support they provide the client with is both science- and experience-based; it’s a combination of state-of-the-art and traditional approaches geared towards each unique client. They also help to make the most of doctors visits, who for the most part, have such limited time with their patients that they cannot give more than just very general recommendations with regard to the health benefits of lifestyle and nutrition.  In addition to providing guidance and accountability for clients with their specific goals, Health Coaches also empower clients to select health-promoting behaviors that work for them. They raise awareness and offer support as clients move in their own ways toward an improved health they want for themselves. Health coaching hopefully leads to long-term behavior change, but only because Health Coaches guides clients towards doing meaningful work that forms a strong foundation.

What differentiates you from other nutritional health coaches ?

I have been at the forefront of scientific research for several years, with a track record of publications at the highest impact journals (Science, Nature, etc..). My strong scientific background allows me to guide individuals to attain their best-self based on the most up-to-date and strongest science-driven evidence for the specific changes that can make the biggest positive impact tailored to their individual condition and goals.

How long is your Health Coaching program?

My program typically consists of twelve bimonthly 50-minute health coaching sessions spanning six months. Why six months? I chose six months because it is the duration of time that has been shown that when people build habits into their lives they are more likely to be able to sustain those habits in the long term. However, for those clients who prefer it, I also have the option of meeting weekly so that the program would be completed in approximately three months.

Do you have a refund policy?

In the event of the Client’s absence or withdrawal, for any reason whatsoever, the Client will remain responsible for the pro-rata share of the program that has been delivered, plus a cancellation fee of US$50/45 euro/CAD$62. Furthermore, the Coach reserves the right to cancel the program if at any point he feels it is not advantageous for the coaching program to continue. If this happens, the Client is only responsible for the pro-rata share of coaching services received.

Do you recommend any specific diet?

No, but I do recommend a dietary pattern that is predominantly whole-foods plant-based (> 85%) as this has been shown to be optimal for sustaining human (and planetary) health. For example, in 2019 the EAT-Lancet commission gathered 37 scientists from 16 countries who came up with the “Planetary Health Plate”, a dietary pattern in which at least 87% of all calories derive from healthy whole-food plant sources. If this dietary pattern were to be adopted at a planetary scale, the report predicted that more than 11 million lives could be saved every year from diet-driven preventable chronic diseases. My program initially focuses on crowding out unhealthy foods by simply increasing the consumption of these more healthful plant-food sources and drinking plenty of water! Then and in conjunction with the client it would be decided how far to go on the plant-based spectrum.

Does your Health Coaching program focus exclusively on nutrition?

No, I do not focus only on diet/nutrition with my clients since optimal wellness is clearly more than just what is on your plate! My 360º health coaching-customized program includes physical activity, stress management, self-care, mind-set, social engagement/relationships and sleep since these have all been shown to work synergistically with nutrition in determining your health and well-being (see what else I am interested in helping you with in the “What to expect” section of my web page!)

What is a Free Discovery Call?

It is your first small step towards vibrant health! In this free initial consultation you will have the opportunity to talk about your life, and to put forth the goals you’d like to reach for your health. See it as an opportunity to be heard in a judgment-free manner and to get a sense of what it feels like to have more support in your life. You’ll also learn how you can reach those goals by working with me in the context of my health coaching program.

In order to better know where a potential client is on her/his wellness journey I would ask that a questionnaire (aka health history) be completed before we talk (not all questions need be answered). Naturally all information the potential client provides will not be shared with anyone else and will remain between the health coach and potential client. Unless the potential client is the Barcelona metropolitan area we would meet virtually through a zoom/google meet or skype call for 45-50 minutes on a day/time slot selected by the potential client through my web page’s scheduler.

The Client understands that the role of the Health Coach is not to prescribe or assess micro- and macronutrient levels; provide health care, medical or nutrition therapy services; or to diagnose, treat or cure any disease, condition or other physical or mental ailment of the human body. Rather, the Coach is a mentor and guide who has been trained in holistic health coaching to help clients reach their own health goals by helping clients devise and implement positive, sustainable lifestyle changes. The Client understands that the Coach is not acting in the capacity of a doctor, licensed dietician-nutritionist, psychologist or other licensed or registered professional, and that any advice given by the Coach is not meant to take the place of advice by these professionals. If the Client is under the care of a healthcare professional or currently uses prescription medications, the Client should discuss any dietary changes or potential dietary supplements use with his or her doctor, and should not discontinue any prescription medications without first consulting his or her doctor.
